The short version
- • We only use your details to run your account and save your shopping lists.
- • We never sell your data. Not to anyone, ever — no advertisers, no data brokers.
- • We don’t share your personal details for other companies’ marketing.
- • You can delete your lists — or your whole account — whenever you like.
Who we are
SwapMyShop (“we”, “us”) is a free tool at swapmyshop.co.uk and in our mobile app that compares supermarket prices so you can find the cheapest shop for your list.
What we collect
Only what we need to give you an account and save your lists:
- Your email address — to sign you in, verify your account, and let you reset your password.
- A password — if you sign up with email. It’s stored hashed (scrambled one-way), so nobody — including us — can read it.
- Your name — only if you choose to add one. It’s optional.
- Your shopping lists — the items you add and the lists you save, so you can pick up where you left off and tick them off in‑store.
- If you sign in with Google or Apple — we receive your email address and name from them to create your account. We don’t get your password or anything else.
We do not collect your location, contacts, or payment details. SwapMyShop never takes payments and never pushes anything to a supermarket basket on your behalf.
Why we use it
Purely to provide the service: to sign you in, keep you signed in, save and sync your lists across your devices, and send the occasional necessary email (verifying your address or resetting your password). That’s it.
We never sell your data
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We don’t share it with advertisers or data brokers, and we don’t use it to build a profile of you for marketing.
Who we share it with
Only the trusted services we need to run SwapMyShop, and only for that purpose:
- Our hosting provider — to store your account and lists on our secure server.
- Google / Apple — only if you choose to sign in with them.
- Our email provider — to deliver verification and password‑reset emails.
We may also earn a small commission if you follow a link from SwapMyShop to a retailer — this never costs you anything and doesn’t involve sharing your personal details.
Cookies & similar technology
We keep you signed in by storing a secure login token on your own device. We don’t use tracking cookies to follow you around the web. If we ever show ads, we’ll update this policy first and tell you.
How we protect it
Your connection to SwapMyShop is encrypted (HTTPS). Passwords are hashed, never stored in plain text. We keep access to our systems limited and locked down.
Keeping & deleting your data
We keep your account and lists for as long as you have an account. You can delete any saved list at any time from your account page. To delete your whole account and everything in it, just email us (below) and we’ll remove it.
Your rights
You can ask us to show you the data we hold about you, correct it, or delete it. If you’re in the UK/EU, you also have the right to complain to your data protection regulator (in the UK, the ICO).
Children
SwapMyShop isn’t aimed at children and we don’t knowingly collect data from anyone under 16.
Changes to this policy
If we change anything meaningful, we’ll update this page and the “last updated” date above.
